According to this article, the recent win by WWF and AMCS on their objection to orange roughy MSC certification has resulted in reduced credibility of the ecolabel in Australia.

It touches on many elements of our work as Make Stewardship Count, and further highlights the need for improvements to the MSC standard and processes to ensure that certified fisheries are sustainable and follow global best practice.

Some of the key issues highlighted by this article, and the objection, are: the ambiguities in the current MSC standard that force CABs to interpret the standard in their own way, which ultimately results in certification discrepancies; the need for the Endangered, Threatened & Protected (ETP) section of the standard to be reviewed and amended to remove inconsistencies; and our asks for appropriate transparency and accessibility of the consultation process, which is currently complicated and limiting.
